Email marketing is an essential part of any business strategy, and with so many options out there, it can be challenging to choose the right email platform. Two of the most popular email marketing platforms are Klaviyo and Mailchimp. Keep reading to learn about the differences between these two platforms to help you decide which one is best for your business.

User Interface

When it comes to user interface, both Klaviyo and Mailchimp offer intuitive and user-friendly interfaces. However, Klaviyo’s interface is more streamlined and easier to navigate. There may be more features but it's intuitive for businesses of every size.

Segmentation

The advanced segmentation functionality available in Klaviyo is incredibly powerful, allowing you to group subscribers based on their transactional and behavioural data.

Klaviyo collects information in real-time from any CRM (eg Shopify) and you can even run predictive analytics to help mitigate churn risk and the average time between orders.

In contrast, Mailchimp does offer segmentation but the functionality is much more basic. While you can create groups based on age, location and campaign activity, Mailchimp doesn't support real-time behaviour tracking. It also lacks predictive analytics.

Integrations

Both Klaviyo and Mailchimp offer a range of integrations with popular e-commerce platforms, including Shopify, WooCommerce, and Magento. However, Klaviyo offers more advanced integrations with these platforms, allowing you to track customer behaviour and personalize your email campaigns based on that data. Klaviyo also allows you to integrate directly with other marketing channels including Google Ads and META, alongside apps including Recharge, Skio and Okendo.

Our focus is on delivering practical and results-driven campaigns that resonate with your audience

Automation

Automated email flows help to improve your business performance and customer experience, and we strongly recommend our clients to run automated emails.

Mailchimp allows you to send simple automated flows such as a welcome message or a birthday offer, and the drag-and-drop functionality in the journey builder is a great option if you are starting out with automation.

However, thanks to the advanced data in Klaviyo, the automated flows based on behavioural triggers are almost limitless. Their new flow builder is really intuitive allowing you to see the full flow easily.

Pricing

When it comes to pricing, both Klaviyo and Mailchimp offer competitive pricing plans. However, Klaviyo’s pricing is based on the number of contacts you have, while Mailchimp’s pricing is based on the number of emails you send per month. This means that Klaviyo can be more cost-effective if you have a large number of contacts but don’t send many emails.

Customer Support

Both Klaviyo and Mailchimp offer excellent customer support. However, Klaviyo’s customer support is known to be more responsive and helpful.

In conclusion, both Klaviyo and Mailchimp are excellent email marketing platforms, and the choice between them ultimately comes down to your business needs and budget. For us, Klaviyo does have the edge for e-commerce brands thanks to their real-time behavioural analytics and triggered flows.
